Comments:: Hi guys,In all the vintage funny cars sites or drag race car sites I've been to, there is one car I haven't seen that I remembered from the mid-late 80's. What I remember about this car was that I think it was a brand-new Chevy TA/FC, perhaps a Cavalier, and the name was something like "All American"(?). No idea who the driver was. I took a long lost photo of it at a show at Englishtown at a booked in Nitro/ Alcohol funny car show. Why I remember it? It was beautiful - white, red and blue, stars and stripes type paint job, nice chrome wheels. Well, as I remember, one of the nitro cars couldn't make the next round, so this car was put in as a substitute. I remember the car launched well, and seemed to be doing well against the nitro car until about half-track, when it got out of shape and crossed over from the spectator lane and got into the grass on the pit side. This was when E-Town still had the wooden or Armco guard rails and the grassy area before it. I don't remember if he hit the rail, or it just caught the grass and flipped, but the car came apart, and I believe he was ejected from the car, from later photos I saw of the crash. He was critically injured, but survived, and was airlifted to the hospital. I seem to remember that he retired fom driving after that. Those pictures were featured some years later in an article about funny car safety and driver restraint, perhaps in one of the drag racing publications of the time, or Hot Rod/Car Craft?Any clue as to the car? I don't believe it raced again. Thanks,Gene Hedden
