Title/Author: Captain from Castile/samuel shellabarger
Summary: A spanish hidalgo and his family fall victim to the Inquisition, which
he escapes and carries himself and his vendetta to the new world.
The low born woman who loves him follows him there and after many adventures, they get back to Spain. Since it predates Outlander, I would have to say the villain of the piece could have given BJR his original lessons in deviltry.

Title/Author: Ogre, Ogre by Piers Anthony
Summary: Part of the Xanth series (which are full of puns). It's about an ogre on a quest and ends up the guardian of an group of females of different species. I'm not too good at explaining it since I have been a hoser for a while now. I think it's time for me to re-read it now that I have to wait a while for the next DG book.

Title/Author: Valley of the Horses/Jean M. Auel
Summary: I enjoy this volume of the Earth's Children series most. It continues the story of Ayla, an orphaned Cro-Magnum child raised by a clan of Neanderthals. As the book begins, Ayla has been cursed with death by the leader of her clan, which means she is dead to them, not necessarily deceased. At age 14 Ayla leaves behind her son and the only family she's ever known to live alone in a green valley she stumbled across on the dry, arid steppes. During the next three years she adopts and raises a colt, and then a baby cave lion. The book is juxtaposed with the story of Jondalar and Thonolan as they leave their home a continent away to make a Journey. They eventually meet Ayla's now-grown cave lion, and Ayla and Jondalar fall in love after she heals his wounds. I used to re-read this series at least twice a year, but I guess it's been about two years since I read any of them.
