After all others did it and nothing happend. | |||

The Igbo youths under the umbrella of Igbo Renaissance Movement hereby state as follows: 1. We, the Igbo youths condemn in an unmistakable term the recent plans by the Federal Government to deregulate the downstream sector of the oil industry. Deregulation is tantamount to increment in the prices of petroleum products which invariably will escalate the rising cost of any item or commodity foreseeable. This we have noted will worsen inflation and impoverish the masses of this country the more. It is most painful that at a period like this when governments of countries world over are introducing measures to cushion the effects of the recent world economic crisis, our government is thinking of introducing more hardship to her people. We , therefore call on the government to shelve the idea of deregulation for now until such a time as will be convenient to the suffering masses of this nation. The Igbo Youths, through this medium support the position taken by the Nigeria Labour Congress on this matter. We also state once more that any attempt by the government to cause more hardship to the people will be opposed by the Igbo youths. We call on the Nigerian youths to organize themselves disciplined without violence and oppose this evil plan or policy. 2.The Igbo Youths support the recent measures being introduced by the Central Bank Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to reposition the banking sector and at the same time we have noted that the former Central Bank Governor, Professor Charles Saludo has come under undue and unwarranted attacks recently from certain individuals and a section of the media with a view to discrediting his banking consolidation exercise and attendant positive results during his tenure. The Igbo Youths are indeed proud of the achievements recorded by Professor Charles Soludo during his tenure as CBN Governor. Profitability in the banking sector of the economy continued to grow steadily until the recent world financial crisis. Soludo should be commended and not vilified. We, appeal to the media not to lend itself to unscrupulous individual with the PULL HIM DOWN SYNDROME (PHD) whose stock in trade is to tarnish the images and reputations of worthy technocrats who have served this country.
